Dear Sara Koenig,

        I am very upset that cell phone tower records could be used in the court when they are clearly not that reliable. I mean just look at a precedent case. Just look at what happened to Justin Wolfe who was prosecuted for no reason. Cell towers were a crucial part of the state's case against Justin. However, it would not have been enough to convict him without Owen Barber. All because Owen tried to cover for himself by placing the death on Justin when in fact he was the murderer. The same thing could have happened to me. Moreover, why did they not test many of the items they found for DNA? Such as the liquor bottle, the rope next to Hae's body or the two fiber samples. If they found someone else's DNA they would know it wasn't me. 

        I believe my trial was a mistrial. I don't think the evidence used against me met the standard of proof. I want to appeal for a new trial. Still, I cannot thank you enough for the work you are doing to try and get me out of jail.

        Dear Adnan,
                            I am writing to let you know that I do not think you were guilty. Most of the evidence used against you is circumstantial. The state's case against you is almost entirely based on Jay's testimony. However, it boggles my mind that Jay faced absolutely no punishment. He has admitted do doing so many things that could be used against him in a court. And yet, he never stepped foot inside a jail. He has claimed that he helped dig the body as well as knew that Hae was in danger. So, why choose now to tell the police when instead he could have saved a life. Also, just this entire case is strange. There are just so many things that are out of the ordinary. Why did Jay change his story so many times? Why has the only witness who saw you at the library rescinded her own letter? How did Mr. S discover such a well hidden body? I think there should be a retrial.

Serial episode one starts off by giving us the background information of a real life case that took place in 1999. The first episode gives us a broad summary of everything that took place leading up to Adnan Syed's conviction. Adnan Syed was a high schooler who was found guilty of murdering his ex-girlfriend Hae Lee. Sarah Koenig narrates the podcast. Although she's not a detective or a private investigator, she is trying to find an alibi for Adnan Syed to get him out of prison. The episodes start off very general and then goes into depth about all the people that were involved. The podcast raises a lot of questions as most of the evidence presented in Syed's trial were circumstantial.

      The main piece of evidence against Adnan is a testimony by Jay who blames Adnan for Hae Lee's murder. That is the backbone of the state's case against Adnan. There was no physical proof that he did it. However, what doesn't help is the fact that Adnan does not have any alibi because he does not recall exactly what what he did on that day. More importantly, he does not remember what he did during the 21 minutes that Hae was murdered.
